Speakers
SPEAKER PROFILE:
Joseph Austin
Joe Austin is the owner of Austin & Associates, a private investigative service and consulting firm in Anchorage. He has been self employed since retiring from the Anchroage Police Department in December of 1994. Joe has over 35 years experience in the field, conducting various types of investigations.
Joe conducts both civil and criminal defense investigations. In addition to his investigative services, he consults in both civil and criminal matters. Joe has testified in Alaska Courts as an expert in: Investigations; Interviewing / Interrogating; Homicide Investigations; Crime Scene Reconstruction; Child Abuse / Exploitation; and Identification Procedures.
He was a charter member of the Anchorage Police Department's nationally recognized Homicide Response Team. Joe was the chief investigator on several complex and high profile cases during his tenure with the Department. He also establoished and supervised the Department's Crimes Against Children Unit.
Joe is a graduate of the Southern Police Institute, University of Louisville, Administrative Officers Course. He majored in criminal justice, with 124 credit hours. In addition, he has several thousand hours of training in various aspects of investigating, including: Advanced crime scene processing; Blood stain and physical evidence; Advanced interviewing and interrogation techniques; Criminal psychology; Homicide and sex crime investigation; Profiling violent sexual offenders; Deviant sexual behavior; Child Abuse and Sexual Exploitation; Child maltreatment.
Joe has also instructed and lectured on numerous topics of investigating. He has been a guest lecturer at the University of Alaska, Wayland Baptist University; Anchorage School District; Alaska Academy of Trial Lawyers; Alaska Investigators Association. Joe was certified as a police instructor with the Alaska State Police Standards Council in 1983. He was an instructor at the Anchorage Police Departments Academy.
